Glossary ​

Halo glossary: short definitions of workspace, Digital Human, team, capabilities, knowledge base, memory and other terms, with the exact UI labels.

Terms you meet in these docs and in the app, grouped by topic. Each one has a short definition, the labels the app shows, and the page that explains it.

Workspace ​

A folder plus its conversations, memory and resources. Use one per project.

Halo Workspace ​

The built-in workspace Halo opens in; good for one-off work.

Conversation ​

One chat thread with Halo inside a workspace.

Digital Human ​

An AI member that works on its own — on a schedule, on events or when messaged in IM — with its own memory and settings.

Team ​

Several Digital Humans led by a lead that split a job, hand work over and deliver results; temporary or saved.

Temporary collaboration ​

A team the AI assembles for the task at hand; keep it if you want to reuse it.

Lead ​

The team member that plans, assigns work and asks you when the team cannot decide.

Team across computers ​

A team with members on colleagues' computers, joined by an invite link. Members on the same network connect straight to the host computer (with Remote Access on); across networks they go through a Federation Gateway you run yourselves.

Federation Gateway ​

A relay you deploy yourself so computers on different networks can join one team; it passes messages between them.

Capabilities ​

Per-conversation switches in the composer ＋. The AI can ask you to turn one on but cannot turn it on itself.

Capability library ​

Where installed skills and MCP servers are managed.

Skill ​

A reusable instruction package (SKILL.md) the AI uses when relevant, or that you call with /.

MCP server ​

An external tool server connected through the Model Context Protocol.

Knowledge base ​

Your documents, extracted on your computer into searchable text; the AI reads them and lists its sources.

Memory ​

What Halo keeps between conversations: conversations in a workspace share workspace memory; each Digital Human has its own (current state, history, topics).

Topic ​

One page of memory about one subject, written and tidied by the AI.

Task panel ​

One list of running work and questions waiting for you, across all workspaces.

Changes view ​

See, stage and commit Git changes in the workspace, and have the AI review them.

Canvas ​

The tabbed viewer on the right for files, the browser, the terminal, the team view and changes.

Workspace resources ​

The right rail with Files, Digital Humans, Skill and MCP tabs.

AI Browser ​

A built-in browser the AI operates with your signed-in sessions; you can watch and take over.

AI Terminal ​

A persistent terminal you and the AI share.

Store ​

Browse and install Digital Humans and skills; Settings › App Store manages the sources.

Message channels ​

Connections to IM and email: two-way bots bound to one Digital Human, and one-way notification channels.

Bot ​

The identity on the IM side (WeCom, Feishu, WeChat) that relays messages to one Digital Human.

Reachable Contacts ​

The chats a Digital Human may send messages to on its own.

Permission Control ​

Decides what people messaging a bot can make its Digital Human do: the owner has full access, guests only the allowed tools.

Owner / guest ​

The owner is you, as the bot knows you: the first person to message the bot directly becomes its owner. Guests are everyone else who messages the bot.

Reminder ​

A one-off or recurring reminder you set by asking a Digital Human in its chat.

Schedule ​

When a Digital Human runs by itself.

Trigger ​

What starts a run: a schedule, an event or a message.

Run ​

One execution of a Digital Human's job, with a record you can open.

Capabilities and settings ​

A Digital Human's settings: model, tools and resources, memory, notifications and more.

Model / AI source / provider ​

An AI source is one account or key; each offers models; the model is chosen per conversation.

Deep Thinking ​

How much the model reasons before answering, from Off to Max, set per conversation.

Remaining quota ​

The allowance left, shown only when the provider reports it.

Agent engine ​

The runtime that drives the AI's work: Claude Code SDK by default, plus Halo SDK, Codex SDK and DeepSeek dsh (the last three are experimental).

Remote Access ​

Open your Halo from a phone or another device, on your network or over the internet; also the door to the HTTP API.

Operate Halo ​

A capability that lets the AI change settings and manage workspaces and Digital Humans through Halo's own API.

Reference a conversation ​

Let the AI read another conversation in the workspace, or message it directly.

Goal ​

An objective plus "done when" criteria set for a conversation; it survives context compaction.

Processing Notice ​

The "working on it" message a bot sends in IM when a reply takes a while; can be turned off.

Digital Human package ​

A shareable Digital Human file: .dhpkg, .zip, .yaml, or a folder with spec.yaml.

Halo Server ​

Headless Halo run as a service, with the same UI in a browser.

Developer Mode ​

Writes more detailed diagnostic logs.
